Tubblog at Twenty – Why I’m Starting a new Richard Tubb Blog

Twenty years ago this month, I wrote the first ever article on what would come to be known as Tubblog – The Hub for MSPs.
While Tubblog has now grown well beyond being simply my blog — in fact, it’s now a hub of content for IT Managed Service Providers (MSPs), a business run by a wonderful team and provided with content by a range of contributors (which still includes me!) — it was twenty years ago when Tubblog started as quite literally, Richard Tubb’s blog!
From Windows Live Spaces to WordPress
Hosted on the Windows Live Spaces (anybody remember that platform?), back then I used Tubblog as Richard’s personal journal – sharing what worked, and what didn’t, as I started my journey from IT technician to business owner in this wonderful new thing called “Managed Services“.
Over the next few years, I discovered that my peers – fellow IT business owners – were (gasp!) actually reading my articles and finding them useful as they grew their own MSP businesses.
Then, in 2010, a life changing event happened. My Dad, George Tubb, passed away peacefully but unexpectedly, aged 82.
Shortly afterwards, and motivated to pursue a legacy of helping others, as my Dad always had, I sold my MSP business and went full-time with Tubblog.
The site moved to being hosted on WordPress (as it still is today) and went through various iterations, but the core concept remained the same – sharing my experiences as an MSP owner to help other IT business owners free up their time, focus on what is important and to make more money!
From Richard Tubb’s Blog to Tubblog – The Hub for MSPs
Twenty years later, in 2024, Tubblog – The Hub for MSPs receives tens of thousands of visitors each month, who consume content including everything from blog posts by various authors, to videos, to MSP template downloads, to eBooks, plus TubbTalk – The Podcast for Managed Service Providers (MSPs) (you can see a branding trend there, right?) which has acquired a loyal following in its own right.
But it all started all those years ago with me writing about technology and business.
Why I’m Starting a New Blog
Fast-forward to present-day, and I find myself wanting to blog at a personal level once again.
In fact, one of my three words for 2025 is Broadcast.
Broadcast – I will actively broadcast my knowledge and discoveries with others through blogs, videos, podcasts and books. I enjoy sharing in this way as it helps me to clarify my thoughts, express myself and brings me satisfaction. I broadcast without being attached to any outcome, but knowing that by sharing my thoughts, I’m helping myself and others.
Therefore, I’m going to start sharing my personal thoughts via the blog on RichardTubb.co.uk
Of course, Tubblog will continue, with myself and many other contributors writing about Managed Services.
But away from the MSP space, you can expect to see me write about topics I’m passionate about on this blog, including:-
- Mental health and personal development
- Green tech and the environment
- Technology and gadgets
- Retro computing
… and anything else that catches my interest.
Migrating Historical Non-MSP Blog Articles
Over the years, I also wrote a lot of articles on Tubblog that weren’t MSP-centric.
I’m going to migrate these posts (retaining their original publishing dates) to this blog, to help Team Tubb manage the Managed Services content at Tubblog more effectively.
Final Thoughts
Twenty years ago, I started out blogging and it became a full-time business and career.
Now, taking it all back to where it started, I want to also write again for my own pleasure.
I hope you enjoy what I share on this blog in the next twenty years! 🙂
